Trimming the sub-forums

I know this idea has been floated before but I'm going to put it out there again - how do you guys feel about cutting down on the number of sub-forums? I really feel that the setup we have is quite excessive (45 boards!), especially since a large number of the sub-forums see little or no activity.

Trimming it down and/or merging some of the more redundant forums (or possibly changing the lines along which the boards are divided - I think it's excessive to split things both into different praxis' and different cultural groups) would condense content and make it easier to find threads, make the board less overwhelming for newcomers and create less confusion as to where specific topics belong (I'm working on an idea for a thread at the moment, and I can see at least half a dozen different sub-forums in which I could reasonably place it).

The set up we have has needed changing for some time,but unfortunately I was never allowed to make any significant changes to the layout, despite requesting to do so on multiple occasions. I made the best of what is there to work with and several folders were created at the request of members, so that is why they are there.

We do need to make changes, staff are well aware of this already, but we currently limited in what we can do. The last time someone had permission to change the forum they messed it up badly, unfortunately, but I'd like to be clear unequivocally on this: it wasn't me.

I hope to get something moving soon, at least. Hopefully.

I had to take some time off due to illness, but I'm back now and will try to get some movement ongoing.
