Re: What is a scepter used for in ceremonial magic?
There are probably tons of different designs for scepters in old grimoires, but my knowledge of those is rather limited. There are a few different scepters in the Golden Dawn initiation ceremonies: The Hierophant's wand ("Scepter of Power") The Hegemon's wand ("Scepter of Wisdom"...

Re: Questions about the Golden Dawn elemental weapons
This can vary, and certain "Golden Dawn" orders request different things. Usually, the front holds a Hexagram (the number 6 symbol of the Macrocosm), and the Pentagram is upon the back, symbol of Man (5). The symbol then is that of the unification of the two, and the inherent meaning is l...

Questions about the Golden Dawn elemental weapons
Okay, so I've been working my way up to where I would construct, one by one, the four elemental "weapons" of the Golden Dawn system (but not consecrating them yet). The design gives me a couple of questions from a practical and symbolic point of view. 1) For all of the weapons: How importa...

Re: David Griffin's Methods?
I was actually going to ask something similar about The Ritual Magic Manual, but in a different area. Griffin writes that one should be careful to put their tools away safely before doing any kind of banishing, otherwise one runs the risk of inadvertently banishing the forces attracted to those tool...

Idea for drawing the Solar hexagram in the GRH
Okay, so I assume that most people are at least somewhat familiar with the Greater Ritual of the Hexagram; I have not yet used it myself, but reading over some writings on the subject there is one thing that I always notice. The normal attribution of the planets to the hexagram puts the Sun in the c...

Re: Goetic role-playing game?
Hmm...don't think it's Mythicum Goetia, as the website describes it as a board/card game. It also talks about a print release in future tense, and considering the forums are literally empty except for a status announcement, I doubt this game reached print. (Besides, as far as I know, Lovecraft never...

Re: Lesser Pentagram dagger/sword, and an invoking idea
Oh dear... [oh] Well, I personally prefer the Fire wand and the Air dagger. That's just my opinion, I'm not saying it's empirically right or wrong (after all, not many things in occultism are 100% empirical). I agree that having the dagger represent Air isn't a perfect match symbolically, but the ph...

Re: Lesser Pentagram dagger/sword, and an invoking idea
I was reading Regardie's The Golden Dawn , and when he talks about the magical sword, he refers to it representing Geburah (strength) and says it should be used for banishing purposes. Does this extend to using the magical sword, instead of a dagger (not the Air dagger), to perform the LBRP? The sw...

Goetic role-playing game?
So, in Kraig's Modern Magick (Third Edition), he talks about a tabletop RPG that he found that contains invocations from the Ars Goetia , and markers that are actually some of the seals/sigils from said book. I can completely understand why he didn't want to put the name of the game, and he said it ...

Re: Which is your favourite Tarot deck?
I use this one: http://www.amazon.com/Tarot-Complete-Running-Press-Mega/dp/0762413824 I originally bought it because a) it was a lot cheaper than any of the others I found, and b) it was the only one I could hide in my pocket until I got home. [rofl] It's the one I used to 'learn' the Major Arcana, ...

I also think the mother should be a competent practising magickian in her own right as she is just as invested in this as any other participant, she should be more than just a willing vessel.Times, they've changed since the good old days. Re: De Homunculo Epistola
I was actually referring to the fact that the woman has to be kept basically in one place for the whole nine months (compare that to many cults' kidnapping crimes) as something which would draw the most objections. And for good reason; she would have to be briefed extremely thoroughly. But you bring...

De Homunculo Epistola
So I was reading this thing and...well... [zomg] To someone who remains convinced that all non-Christian magic is evil or...well, they wouldn't find any opposition in this. Maybe it's just the research I've been doing on various cults, but this whole process seems incredibly cult-like. I'm frankly a...

Re: music sigilized?
Not sure if this is exactly what the OP meant, but I thought of this immediately: [Tool drummer Danny] Carey has laid claim to various drumming techniques that use sacred geometric figures such as the unicursal hexagram. The final product is very recognizable, fluent drumming, although to him it is ...

Re: Sigil tattoos
I had an idea a while back to do something like this, only with one of the seals from the Ars Goetia. The purpose would be twofold: I'd always have it with me (and therefore it would probably be pretty impressed on my unconscious), and it could be part of the "arrangement" with said spirit...

The "quartered square" - a functional magical diagram
Early on in my magical work, I was thinking about how I might go about designing my own system, particularly in regards to symbolism. I wanted the primary symbol by which a system could be represented (i.e. a pentagram in a circle is often used to represent Wicca) to do two things: 1) Be free from a...

Re: My experiences so far with "High Magic" and daily work
What it really comes down to is forcing yourself to get up and get into it, even if you don't feel like it. You'll reach that moment where you have spare time to practice, but you'll be tired, or you'll want to do something else, or you won't be in the mood, but you need to just shrug it off and go...

Re: DSM IV and V
I have a friend who has ADD and bipolar disorder. She tells me she's not at all happy with the way that (according to her; I haven't read any) DSM V is putting a lot or disorders and conditions under the same categories, i.e. making everything more generalized.

My experiences so far with "High Magic" and daily work
First post here; here goes. About six months ago, I bought Donald Michael Kraig's Modern Magick: Twelve Lessons in the High Magickal Arts . I thought it was a great book when I first started reading it, and I still do. It's obviously not perfect; I very much dislike the way that he presents alchemy ...
